Spirit-forward · Rye & Cognac
Vieux Carré
New Orleans in a rocks glass.
Rye, cognac, sweet vermouth, Bénédictine and two bitters — the French Quarter's rich, layered signature, named for the old square.
Ingredients
- Rye Whiskey30 ml
- Cognac30 ml
- Sweet Vermouth30 ml
- Bénédictine1 Bar Spoon
- Peychaud's Bitters2 Dashes
Garnish
Garnish with orange zest and a maraschino cherry.
Method
- 1Pour all ingredients into mixing glass with ice cubes.
- 2Stir well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass over ice.
The lesson
Splitting the base between rye and cognac gives a stirred drink two spines at once. Great cocktails often layer, not simplify.
