Mint Julep
The Kentucky Derby in a frosted cup.
Bourbon, sugar and mint over a mountain of crushed ice in a metal cup that frosts in your hand — the drink of the American South.
Ingredients
- Bourbon Whiskey60 ml
- fresh Mint sprigs4
- Powdered Sugar1 tsp
- Water2 tsp
Garnish
Garnish with a big bouquet of mint sprigs.
Method
- 1In a julep cup gently muddle the mint with sugar and water.
- 2Fill the cup with cracked ice, add the Bourbon and stir until the cup frosts.
The lesson
Crushed ice + a metal vessel = fast chilling and a frost you can see. The serving vessel is part of the recipe, not the packaging.
