The tiki drink everyone gets wrong.
Aged rum, orange curaçao, orgeat and lime — Trader Vic's 1944 original had no pineapple, no umbrella, just balance.
Ingredients
- Amber Jamaican Rum30 ml
- Martinique Agricole Rhum30 ml
- Orange Curacao15 ml
- Orgeat (Almond) Syrup15 ml
- Fresh Lime Juice30 ml
- Simple Syrup7.5 ml
Garnish
Garnish with pineapple spear, mint leaves and lime peel.
Method
- 1Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice.
- 2Shake and pour into a double rocks glass filled with crushed ice.
The lesson
Orgeat (almond syrup) is the secret: it adds body and nuttiness citrus can't. The right syrup is a load-bearing ingredient.
